Austria's Alpine roads are some of the most scenic in Europe. Salzburg and Innsbruck are the gateways to the lakes and the ski regions, while Vienna works well for combining Austria with Bratislava, Budapest or Prague.
In winter, choose a supplier that includes winter tyres, and think about a slightly bigger car if you are carrying ski equipment. Some suppliers charge extra for roof boxes or ski racks.

| Licence | Drivers with a non-EU licence should carry an International Driving Permit with their national licence. |
| Good to know | Winter equipment rules apply from 1 November to 15 April whenever there is snow or ice. Check the rental includes winter tyres. |
