Slovakia is compact enough to cross in a day, from Bratislava on the Danube to the High Tatras and the castles of the east. Vienna airport is only about 50 km from Bratislava, so it is worth comparing prices on both sides of the border.
Mountain roads in the Tatras can be snowy well into spring. Check the rental includes winter tyres if you are travelling between November and March.
